Fourteen-year-old Texas student Samvith Mahadevan has developed a portable “chemical nose” that uses sensors and machine learning to detect traces of common food allergens. His invention, The Allergent, has shown 94% to 97% accuracy in tests involving allergens such as peanuts, eggs and tree nuts.
