Accelerated ageing tests replicate real‐world degradation in perovskite solar cells
Researchers from HZB, Bielefeld University, University of Applied Sciences (HTW) Berlin, University of Ljubljana and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev have identified how to realistically accelerate and replicate real‐world degradation in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by carefully tuning light intensity and electrical bias, rather than relying solely on high‐temperature stress. The team started from a central challenge in perovskite photovoltaics: long‐term stability remains the missing “golden triangle” corner for large‐scale commercialization, and existing accelerated ageing protocols do not always mirror what actually happens outdoors over many months or years. To address this, they directly compared PSCs that had undergone 20 months of natural outdoor operation in Berlin with freshly fabricated devices exposed to controlled indoor stress conditions.
