AI and Bacteriophages Join Forces Against Drug-Resistant Superbugs
Researchers are combining bacteriophages with deep learning algorithms to better detect and destroy antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Unlike traditional antibiotics that wipe out both harmful and beneficial bacteria, engineered bacteriophages can be programmed to target specific pathogens. Deep learning models now allow scientists to predict phage-host interactions with far greater accuracy, speeding up the identification of effective phages and accelerating the development of new tools to fight hard-to-treat infections.
