Assam DITEC Director Ashwani Kumar Announces Internship 2.0 Programme
The Directorate of Information Technology, Electronics & Communication ( DITEC ), Government of Assam , has invited applications for Internship 2.0, a four-week Industrial Exposure Programme aimed at providing engineering students with firsthand experience of digital governance, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and public technology systems. The programme, announced under the leadership of Ashwani Kumar , IAS, Secretary of the IT Department and Director of DITEC, Government of Assam, is designed for third-year students pursuing Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Electrical Engineering and related disciplines The initiative aims to bridge the gap between technical education and real-world government technology implementation by exposing young engineers to how digital platforms are developed, secured and used to deliver public services. According to DITEC, governments today are among the largest users of technology, powering areas such as welfare delivery, digital identity, public finance, education, healthcare and citizen services. Internship 2.0 has therefore been designed as an immersive learning programme rather than a conventional classroom internship. Building on First Internship Batch The programme follows the success of DITEC’s first internship batch held in 2025, which included 11 students. Based on feedback from participants and emerging technology trends, the curriculum has been expanded to include new areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Data Analytics and emerging technologies. Officials stated that the objective of the programme is not to create specialists within four weeks but to provide students with broad exposure across multiple technology domains and encourage continuous learning. Students to Learn About Assam’s Digital Governance Ecosystem As part of the internship, students will receive exposure to several digital governance platforms and initiatives, including the Unified Assam Portal (Sewa Setu), e-District, e-Office, e-Prastuti, District e-Governance Societies and citizen service delivery mechanisms. The programme will also introduce participants to the technology infrastructure supporting government services, including: State Data Centre Government Cloud Cloud Computing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Networking fundamentals ASWAN and SWAN Assam Right of Way Portal BSNL’s Swadeshi 4G initiative Focus on Cybersecurity and Digital Trust Cybersecurity will be another key component of Internship 2.0. Students will learn about identity management, encryption, cyber hygiene, incident response and maintaining digital trust. Experts from DITEC, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), government departments and private technology organisations will share practical knowledge based on their experience in implementing large-scale technology projects. Students will also get an understanding of the role played by NIC in India’s e-Governance ecosystem. Exposure to Aadhaar Technology and Digital Identity Systems A special section of the programme will focus on the Aadhaar ecosystem. Participants will learn about UIDAI’s authentication framework, including: AUA/KUA architecture Sub-AUA integration e-KYC Aadhaar Data Vault Secure APIs Beneficiary verification systems Students will also study how digital identity helps improve transparency and targeted delivery in government schemes such as Orunodoi, Nirman Sakhi, Assam Skill Development Mission, IFMIS, Paddy Procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP), National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm and Anwesha. Artificial Intelligence Added as Major Component One of the biggest additions to Internship 2.0 is Artificial Intelligence. Students will be introduced to emerging AI technologies, including: Generative AI Large Language Models (LLMs) Prompt Engineering Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Machine Learning AI Governance Responsible AI Participants will also get practical exposure to AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Claude, GitHub Copilot and NotebookLM and understand their possible applications in governance and public services. Data Analytics and Emerging Technologies The programme will also include Data Analytics, with special focus on Tableau, dashboards, data visualisation and evidence-based decision-making. Students will further explore emerging technologies such as: Robotics Drones 3D Printing Internet of Things (IoT) These sessions will focus on how new technologies can influence society and future development. Career Guidance and Practical Learning Career counselling will remain an important part of the programme. Sessions will be conducted by Ashwani Kumar, senior government officials and experts from academia and industry on topics including higher education, emerging career opportunities, entrepreneurship, innovation and public technology. Beyond classroom sessions, students will participate in assignments, case studies, presentations and a final project report. They will also interact with officers and engineers involved in implementing Assam’s digital ecosystem. The programme will additionally provide exposure to Government Financial Rules, public financial management, procurement processes, World Bank-supported projects and externally aided programmes, helping students understand that successful digital transformation requires both technological skills and financial management. Limited Seats, No Stipend Facility DITEC stated that the internship will be conducted with a limited number of participants to ensure effective mentoring and interaction. Selected students will be expected to demonstrate curiosity, discipline, punctuality and professionalism. The programme will not provide any stipend, remuneration, travel allowance, daily allowance, or boarding or lodging facilities. Participants will have to make their own arrangements. Students who complete the internship, meet attendance requirements and submit assignments and the final project report will receive a Certificate of Completion of Industrial Exposure Training from DITEC.
