CoreWeave Expands Into Indonesia With Three New AI Data Centers in Asia Pacific Push

AI cloud infrastructure provider CoreWeave is expanding its global footprint into Indonesia, announcing plans to build three new data centers in the country as it makes its first major entry into the Asia Pacific region. The expansion comes as demand for artificial intelligence computing power continues to surge worldwide, with technology companies racing to secure the advanced hardware and cloud infrastructure needed to develop, train and operate increasingly complex AI systems. CoreWeave has been investing heavily in expanding its data-center network to meet this demand, positioning itself as a key provider of AI-focused cloud capacity for businesses and organizations seeking access to high-performance computing resources. The company said the three Indonesian facilities will add a combined 360 megawatts of contracted power capacity. CoreWeave will own and operate all three sites as part of its strategy to build a larger, company-controlled infrastructure network. "Across Asia, enterprises, AI-native companies, and governments increasingly need AI compute located close to their data and users, driven by both latency-sensitive workloads and data locality requirements. CoreWeave's move reflects this shift," the company said. Indonesia Becomes Key Hub for AI Infrastructure Growth CoreWeave’s entry into Indonesia reflects the growing importance of Southeast Asia as companies seek to place AI computing resources closer to end users. The company said the new facilities will help meet demand from enterprises, AI-focused businesses and government organizations that require faster access to computing power while managing data-location requirements. As part of the expansion, CoreWeave will also establish and train a local workforce to operate the facilities, supporting Indonesia’s broader push to develop its artificial intelligence ecosystem and digital infrastructure. The three new sites will add to CoreWeave’s rapidly expanding global network. The company operated 49 data centers worldwide as of March, as it continues scaling capacity to serve customers that require specialized infrastructure for AI workloads. Rising AI Demand Drives Massive Infrastructure Investment The rapid growth of generative AI has created intense competition among cloud providers and technology companies for data-center capacity, advanced processors and energy resources. CoreWeave, which specializes in AI cloud services, has benefited from this trend as companies look for alternatives to traditional cloud infrastructure providers and seek dedicated computing power for AI development. However, expanding AI infrastructure has also brought rising costs. In May, CoreWeave increased the lower end of its 2026 capital expenditure forecast, citing higher component costs linked to a global shortage of memory chips. The company expects to spend between $31 billion and $35 billion this year as it continues building out its data-center network. Major Cloud Deals Fuel CoreWeave’s Expansion CoreWeave has secured several large-scale cloud agreements as demand for AI computing capacity accelerates. The company has signed multi-billion-dollar partnerships this year, including an expanded $21 billion agreement with Meta Platforms and a multi-year cloud infrastructure agreement with Anthropic, the creator of Claude AI models. The Indonesia expansion represents another step in CoreWeave’s strategy to build a global AI infrastructure network capable of supporting the next generation of artificial intelligence applications. With governments and businesses increasingly prioritizing domestic and regional AI capabilities, competition among cloud providers is expected to intensify as companies race to secure computing capacity in strategic markets.
