Instagram now lets users replace audio on published posts and carousels
New Delhi: Instagram has introduced a feature that allows users to replace the audio on published feed posts and carousels without deleting and re-uploading the content. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the update in a post on the social media platform, saying users could now change the audio attached to an existing post through its editing options. The change will retain the original post and its accumulated likes, comments and shares. This resulted in the loss of the post’s engagement history. The update could be relevant to creators and brands that need to replace unavailable or unsuitable tracks, update older content or use a different soundtrack while retaining the original post. Instagram’s head of creator product marketing, Jimmy O’Keefe, told The Verge that changing the audio would not provide an algorithmic boost, although users could replace the track multiple times without losing existing engagement. The feature follows a series of updates to Instagram’s content editing and profile management tools. These include the ability to rearrange posts on a profile grid and add separate captions to individual slides within a carousel. Meta removed the function following criticism over consent and privacy, acknowledging that the feature had “missed the mark”.
