Latent Seal Embeds Robust Watermarks During Image Generation to Support Copyright Protection
A research team has developed Latent Seal, a watermarking framework that places high-capacity image watermarks inside the generation process of latent diffusion models (LDMs), rather than attaching them after an image is created. The approach is designed to help identify artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) and support copyright verification without visibly degrading image quality. A latent-space encoder blends a red-green-blue (RGB) watermark into the model's internal representation, while a paired decoder recovers the mark only from protected images. Tests show that the method remains highly accurate after common edits and distortions, offering a practical route toward more traceable and accountable generative-image systems.
