MCIT, Qatar Youth Hostels conclude AI camp to enhance tourism

Doha: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), represented by Studio 5 and in collaboration with Qatar Youth Hostels, concluded the ‘Enhanced Tourism in Artificial Intelligence Camps’ camp, held under the theme ‘Enhanced Tourism’ and targeting young participants aged 15 to 18. The camp was held as part of Qatar Youth Hostels’ ‘Knowledge Programme’ and brought together 14 young participants, who received six hours of hands-on training delivered over three days by MCIT’s Studio 5 initiative. The sessions focused on artificial intelligence and coding, alongside user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design principles, to develop digital solutions addressing challenges related to planning tourist trips, enhancing community engagement, and facilitating access to cultural experiences through smart mobile applications. The sessions resulted in the development of several prototypes for smart applications that leverage artificial intelligence to support trip planning and enhance the tourist experience. The prototypes were presented at the conclusion of the camp to test the user experience and demonstrate how effectively they responded to the challenges explored by the participants. The prototypes included solutions designed to overcome cultural and language barriers and accessibility challenges, as well as applications that assist tourists in emergencies and help them discover lesser-known destinations. Participants also developed a prototype for an AI-powered tourism chatbot named ‘Travel AI Chat,’ which provides visitors to the State of Qatar with instant answers to their inquiries and directs them to the relevant tourism and public service entities based on their needs, contributing to a more accessible and integrated tourism experience. The camp forms part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s efforts to develop young people’s digital skills and empower them to use artificial intelligence technologies responsibly and creatively to develop solutions that address the needs of vital sectors. By combining knowledge acquisition with practical application, the Ministry aims to prepare a generation equipped with the skills and tools needed to transform their ideas into scalable prototypes, contribute effectively to the development of the digital economy, and support the objectives of the Digital Agenda 2030.
