Nvidia is spending $12.93 billion on Hugging Face, the world’s biggest repository of AI models, and the company whose systems OpenAI’s AI models hacked into
Nvidia is buying Hugging Face, the digital library where millions of developers go to build, share and download artificial intelligence models, in a deal worth $12.93 billion. It’s the second-biggest acquisition in the chipmaker’s history, and it puts Nvidia squarely at the center of the open-source AI movement it has spent years quietly bankrolling. Something else happened first, though. Back in July, Hugging Face was on the receiving end of what OpenAI itself called an “unprecedented” cyberattack. It wasn’t a hacker group behind it.
