According to Pichai, the company is focused on building products that deliver real value for people and businesses, investing in local communities and building trust in technology. Pichai also agreed that the technology industry needs to “innovate responsibly”. He said Google is focused on developing products with appropriate testing, evaluations, red-teaming and other safeguards against misuse and misalignment. The Google CEO added that models and products would be released only after being thoroughly reviewed. He also said Google is committed to working with other industry leaders to establish norms and build public confidence in the technology. What The White House AI Accord Says The full agreement, titled “The White House Accord on Superintelligence: Joint Commitment on Frontier SI Responsibilities”, was signed by Pichai along with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, xAI founder Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, as well as Trump. The one-page document sets out a four-layer framework of controls and audits for frontier AI systems. The first layer requires companies to establish robust internal processes to monitor models during training and deployment. The framework also calls for internal verification, independent external audits to assess safety controls and board-level oversight. Also Read: Donald Trump Calls Pichai a ‘Monster’, Google CEO has Witty Response Accord is Voluntary The agreement is voluntary and is not legally binding. House Speaker Mike Johnson described it as voluntary, while Trump called it “morally” binding rather than legally enforceable. The arrangement places significant responsibility on technology companies to monitor and review their own AI systems. The accord also sets out steps for companies to work with other industry leaders on safety practices and oversight. Pichai said the White House Accord and Joint Commitment provide a basis for moving forward, combining safeguards for responsible AI development with the potential economic and scientific benefits of the technology.
