Warner Music Group expands tech operations in India with new Bengaluru hub
New Delhi: Warner Music Group (WMG) is expanding its Global Tech operations in India with a new technology hub in Bengaluru, which is scheduled to officially open in September. The facility will work across WMG's global technology stack, including music distribution, data infrastructure, core data pipelines and audience and marketing data products. It will also support engineering work involving artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The company has appointed Mahesh Rao as Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead for India. Rao will oversee WMG's engineering strategy, organisational structure, budgets and operating model in the country. He will report to Leho Nigul, Chief Technology Officer at Warner Music Group, who is based in Toronto. Before joining WMG, Rao worked at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development operations. The Bengaluru centre builds on WMG's existing technology team in India, which has been operating for the past year. The company said recruitment is underway across multiple technology functions as it expands the team. "We're building a world-class music tech organisation right here in Bengaluru. The calibre of talent in this market is exceptional, and we're looking for ambitious engineers and innovators who want to help shape the future of the global music industry," Rao said. Nigul said Bengaluru would form part of WMG's broader global engineering strategy, with the company investing in local leadership and technology capabilities. WMG established its India presence six years ago with its headquarters in Mumbai. Jay Mehta, Managing Director, Warner Music India, said the Bengaluru expansion adds a technology-focused operation to the company's existing presence in the market.
